{"id":1037,"date":"2014-07-23T12:06:07","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T02:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/visiblespace.com\/blog\/?page_id=1037"},"modified":"2020-04-17T20:56:48","modified_gmt":"2020-04-17T10:56:48","slug":"new-images-from-atomism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/visiblespace.com\/blog\/?p=1037","title":{"rendered":"2012 Multiverse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/visiblespace.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/multiverse.mp4\">Multiverse<\/a><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"multiverse\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YBNf2zN583o?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The research project is looking for parallel universes that have evolved by working with concepts from Richard Feynman&#8217;s lecture on Photons &#8211; Corpuscles of Light and Fits of Reflection and Transmission &#8211; Quantum Behaviour.<\/p>\n<p>The interactive artwork Multiverse visualises a parallel universe based on the diagrammatic presentation from Richard Feynman 1979 lectures where he demonstrates the probability of photons reflecting from the surface of a mirror (Trust 1979). Multiverse shows an individuals portrait as being analogous to the spin of a single photon at a frequency 475nm based on Feynman\u2019s \u2018probability amplitude\u2019. In the installation, Multiverse reveals that all the possible alternative invisible quantum worlds are equally real and exist in parallel and are made visible via this work. The premise of the work reveals that photons do not merely encode all the information about an object but is also independent of an observer.<\/p>\n<p>The concept for Multiverse uses a data image from the Atomic Force Microscope of a 7-nanometer scan of a mirrored silver substrate that acts as a filter for the live camera feed image of the viewer\u2019s portrait. Each viewer\u2019s real-time reflected portrait is analogous to single photons. The photon\u2019s spin is mapped to reflect back to the viewer showing all of the representation not just the closest to the angle of incidence. The computer generates nearly two thousand versions of the viewer\u2019s image that have an equivalence to Feynman\u2019s \u2018summing\u2019 the angles of probability. The mathematics are processed to react to the \u2018probability amplitude\u2019 of the photons paths across the three LCD screens that acts as a metaphorical mirror. Multiverse reveals the photon\u2019s spin, with the shortest axis being at the centre point. As the spin is visualised along the surface of the entire mirror, there are points where there is clarity in the coalescence of a multitude of reflected images spinning.
